The grounds around and roads leading into the hospital become like shallow muddy rivers as the torrential rains pour down each day. Cars and trucks get stuck and people can barely lift their feet out of the mud as they approach for care. Those who are disabled and need walkers or canes are most adversely affected. The cost of laying concrete is prohibitive and, without an extensive drainage system, would quickly be undermined. With the Board of Infant Jesus Community Hospital (IJCH) and input from local experts, UHI, Inc is sponsoring a 3-step solution. The first step was to bring in large amounts of gravel that absorbs water and coat the roads and paths to allow safe access for both people and vehicles as they approach. The second step was to install large water tanks to capture the rain water and keep it for future use. And the third phase is to collect the water from the soaking ground, purify and filter that water and the water in the tanks so that both are available year-round to the hospital, convent and local villagers. Is it a big undertaking? It surely is.

We believe our work demonstrates to the people of Ishiagu our care, not only for their health, but about the land and environment they call home. We very much hope you agree and will support our efforts with your donations and prayers. A cost of $50,000 remains.
